Sparks of Joy
(Nearly) every day of 2018, I jotted down one happy thing that stayed with me that day onto a tiny scrap of paper and placed the paper into a jar. A Happy Jar, a gift from a New Year’s yoga class a year ago. It inspired my littles to create their own happy jars. They didn’t add to it daily, but on occasion, whenever they felt moved to do so. On January 1, 2019, my little one emptied out her jar and we read her 2018 happy moments together. This set a good tone for the year. I emptied out my jar too, and day by day I’m reliving my happy memories one smile at a time. It all seems quite appropriate, given the moody moments from the other day.
This isn’t a gratitude journal practice, although I have one of those too. The Happy Jar is purely simply all about those things that spark joy, which you can get on board with even if you have never read The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up (I have) or seen the Netflix show (I haven’t).
What are your happy moments, from today and yesterday? What happy moments will this new year bring?
