Communications: 10 guiding principles and 1 practice
Here are a few guiding principles on communications (surely more, here are some):
Every touch point should have purpose.
Purpose can be informational, educational, inspirational, and/or relational.
Content should be intentional, down to each word or gif. Ask: will the recipient know “what’s in this for me?”
Vary format and meet people where they are, knowing people are at different places. Some appreciate long form. Others: TL;DR. Read, watch, or listen.
1-to-1 AND 1-to-Many.
Push AND Pull.
Once upon a time… tell a story. Stories are memorable and break through. And, be human and real. Tone matters. We are not robots (which also means, we might not always get it right. That’s OK.)

A practice:
Before speaking or clicking “send,” ask:
What is MY motivation here?
How will it be received?
Bonus: assess and improve. How was it received?
Every touch point is an opportunity to be intentional. To “touch” with pointedness. This is important, because words are powerful.
